Last Chance to Play Wildstar

Wildstar, developed by Carbine Studios and published by NCSOFT, will be shutting down on November 28, 2018. This is our last chance to play it!

About Wildstar

Wildstar launched in 2014 as a subscription MMORPG but quickly switched to free to play. The graphics are cute and catoony (in a good way) and the combat is excellent, too. All in all, it’s a pretty solid MMORPG with personality.

Here’s a video that shows an overview of what the game looks like and what it offers:

Everything is now truly free in Wildstar

If you should want to check out the game for yourself before it closes, here’s a nice little bonus: everything is now truly free in Wildstar.

Since the game is shutting down very soon, the developers have released an update that allows players to get everything in the game for free, including the items in the in-game store that used to be sold for cash. So now all players can get even previous seasonal items like costumes and mounts. Items are now sold for Omnibits which drop in the game.

Community reactions to the shutdown

Reddit: Why doesn’t NCSoft sell the Wildstar franchise to another company?

Why is it that developers are shutting it down instead of licensing it to fans or even another publisher who wants to keep it running? There’s lots of speculation on Reddit but no one really knows the answer to this question. By the way, as far as I know, there are no private Wildstar servers.

This is a fan video paying tribute and saying farewell to the game:

Comment on the video: “So sad to see the game go only wish I had discovered the game sooner.”

Overall, the current players were, of course, very sad about the shutdown but no one seemed particularly surprised since the game’s population has been decreasing. In 2016 the PvP servers were merged with the PvE servers because of being under-populated.
